/// Penthouse Resort Adriatic

Where:  Croatia - KRK Island
Source:  Jakob Ehrensvärd
What:  This huge resort opened in 1972. Some 45 million US dollars were invested in this particular venture. The Penthouse Adriatic was a more-than-rarefied rendezvous for the sophisticated and appreciative traveler who demanded the kind of cosseting that only Penthouse did understand and provide. But in view of the "Croatian War of Independence 1991-1995", a protracted war that smashed completely the tourism, this resort, like many others became abandoned/bankruptcy.

/// 20 Amazing Sculptures

Where:  Ex-Yugoslavia
Source:  Crack Two
What:  20 Sculptures. All these structures were commissioned by former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito in the 60s and 70s to commemorate places where WWII battles took place, like: Tjentiste, Kozara and Kadinjaca, or where concentration camps stood, like: Jasenovac and Nis. They were designed by some of the most famous sculptors of the Balkans, like: Dusan Dzamonja, Vojin Bakic, Miodrag Zivkovic, Jordan and Iskra Grabul, or architects like: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Gradimir Medakovic, etc... These sculptures were erected, with this powerful visual impact to demonstrate the strength and the power of the Socialist Republic. In the 80s, these monuments attracted millions of visitors per year, especially young pioneers for their "patriotic education." After the Republic dissolved in early 90s, they were completely abandoned, and their symbolic meanings were forever lost. This can let anyone astonished.
